Already closing in on a crisp, new calendar page , I realise a new healthy habit has been
formed in me. Not only do I enjoy walking more, now that I have a motivated
group to do it with, but I miss it when I am unable to join in.
Half way through the Urban Challenge, to walk every side of all 240 urban streets on both sides of our town!!
We walk the talk and talk the walk. It no longer feels like hard work.
Continuing to charge on with 3+ walks of 45 mins or more despite the cold starts and hard rain on one particular day, the km's are racking up.
The knees are numbed, the hips a little unhinged but the spirits are not dampened.
Each walk ends in a triumphant picture. The smiles from ear-to-ear tell the story. And each incredible FBG tells a story.
Many are CEO's of their own businesses ( Cute XXtraordinary Organisers). Others are overcoming illness or serious obstacles in their lives. What an inspiration they are.
Wonder women sharing ideas and influence.
As we fall into step with one another, conversations flow freely, with ease in fact.
There is no pretense when common purpose is the focus.
Everyone is accepted simply for who they are. Present and enjoying the moment.
Size really doesn't matter.Shape is irrelevant.
At any rate, the way we are tracking, my good friend tells me that we might become known as the 'TBG's' before too long!
In May, I logged a pithy 28 km, consisting of lone walks or a walkie-talkie with a friend (Bearing in mind, we began the Urban Street Challenge late May.)
June tallied 68.5 km, mostly FBG's with the odd Park Run ( walk) thrown in for good measure.
July with a few days to go, currently sitting on 69.6! And the best things, no Winter ills, improved state-of-mind and over the hump of mid-Winter! I highly recommend walking, but warn you, it is highly addictive ( in a good way.) ;)
Despite our name, though, this group is not skin-deep. We celebrate difference.
The Fat Bottomed Girls offers an authentic acceptance that is a rare and wonderful quality. Belonging happens as each gifts their unique contribution. Some lead, others follow. Some paint beautiful rocks to hide.Others, like me, can barely draft a stick figure but I craft with words.Admins, organisers, encouragers and socialisers, givers and helpers, communicators, teachers.
Again I say, Wonder Women, with the XX factor. Every voice is heard:
"Yes, I am woman! Hear me in the roar or hear me in the whisper.
Either way, acknowledgement, affirmation, aXXceptance are key.
As my favourite children's author, Dr Seuss, once said:
"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
In presence, persistence and participation, we press on.
And oh, the places we'll go.
